The topic

The reasons vary. The rules don’t.

Many people leave full-time work earlier than they expected to. A parent needs care. A role comes to an end. The work stops being worth it. Or the numbers finally come together and the choice is truly theirs.

Whatever brings you to that transition, the question that follows is often the same: your retirement savings are sitting in accounts that aren’t meant to be touched until 59½ — so what can you actually reach before then?

More than many people assume. There are several legitimate routes into retirement savings before 59½, and which ones are open to you depends on your age, your account types, and decisions you may have already made.

We’ll follow one family through the decisions in the order they actually arrive — what’s open to them, what’s timed, and what they’re at risk of closing without meaning to.

Who this is for

People in their 40s and 50s
thinking about what comes next.

This session is built for people who have built up a 401(k) or IRA and are thinking about life after full-time work — whether that’s a plan taking shape, a possibility on the horizon, or a change that has already arrived.

You don’t need any particular background. If you’ve ever wondered whether you could stop working before 59½ and what it would take, you’re in the right place.
